Mangaluru: A case has been registered at the Suratkal police station against Gururaj Achari (29), the main accused in the Suratkal stabbing case, for assaulting a police officer and obstructing him in the performance of his duties.
Gururaj had gone into hiding after the stabbing incident. After receiving information about his appearance near Pragati Nagar in Kulai Hill, PSI Sudeep M.V of Surathkal Police Station and his team launched an operation to arrest the accused. During this, Gururaj was found hiding under a tree next to a dirt road near Pragati Nagar. When the police came closer to confirm his identity, Gururaj tried to escape. When Police Constable Vinayak chased the accused, the accused picked up a wooden stick that was lying on the ground.
Even though the officers introduced themselves and showed their identity cards, Gururaj ignored them and obstructed the duty, and allegedly hit Vinayak on the left shoulder with the stick. He then tried to escape by kicking the officer and knocking him to the ground. However, PSI Sudeep and other personnel immediately chased him and managed to catch him. A case has been registered against Gururaj on charges of assaulting police officers and obstructing the performance of duty.
