The Bengaluru-Mysore Expressway is a hotbed of accidents and crimes. The service road work is incomplete and unscientific, and there are no CCTV cameras, street lights, or police patrols, which has led to an increase in thefts and robberies. The safety of motorists is a big challenge, and the incident of robbing the police has raised concerns.
Ramanagara, October 31: The expressway, which was built with the aim of reducing the travel time between Bengaluru and Mysore and facilitating smooth traffic, has always been in the news for one thing or another since its inception. Amidst the news of frequent accidents on the 118 km long and 6-lane highway, the increase in crimes has also caused concern for motorists.
Karnataka's first expressway was built at a total cost of Rs 8,479 crore, and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi near Hanakere village in Mandya taluk two and a half years ago. This road has now become a hotspot for thieves. Robberies and thefts are rampant on the service road. There have been reports of thefts and robberies targeting people who come on bikes at night and sleep by parking their vehicles next to the highway. Locals allege that thieves recently robbed the Tamil Nadu police here.
Problem due to unscientific work
Moreover, even after two and a half years since the road was inaugurated, the work on the service road of the highway has not been completed yet. The work that has been done is also unscientific. Even the CCTV cameras that should have been installed for the safety of passengers have not been installed. In addition to the absence of street lights, the absence of police patrols is a boon for thieves. The public has alleged that this is being capitalized on and extorted from passengers.
