Patna, November 02: Former Bihar MLA and Janata Dal United (JDU) candidate from Mokama assembly constituency Anant Singh was arrested late on Saturday night. Singh was arrested in connection with the murder of Dular Chand Yadav, a supporter of Jan Suraj. Singh will contest the upcoming elections from Mokama constituency on a JDU ticket.
Singh was arrested at his house in Barh, about 200 kilometers from the capital Patna. The police have charged them under sections 103(1), 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act.
Patna police have also arrested two persons, Manikanth Thakur and Ranjit Ram, who were present at the scene of the incident in the Dular Chand Yadav murder case. The three have left with the Patna police and will be produced before a magistrate soon, they said.
According to the post-mortem report of Dular Chand Yadav, he died of cardiac arrest due to damage to the heart and lungs by a hard object, said SSP Karthikeya Sharma.
The post-mortem report and the preliminary investigation are saying that it is a case of murder. The investigation has revealed that the three persons, Anant Singh, Manikanth Thakur and Ranjit Ram, who were arrested at the scene at the time of the incident. Anant Singh has also been charged under sections of the Arms Act, 1959.
Under this act, possession of weapons without a license is punishable by imprisonment for three to seven years, and using illegal weapons in murder can lead to life imprisonment or the death penalty.
