 A person who had paid a bill at a hospital in Udupi using a debit card was defrauded of Rs 2.12 lakh by unknown persons through cyber fraud. The fraud came to light when he checked the mobile message that money was deducted from the account even though no transaction was made. A police complaint has been registered regarding the incident.



Udupi, June 17: Recently, there have been reports of cyber frauds in the state, and even if the police are under the scanner, the fraudsters are working to sneak in under the rangoli. Cyber ​​frauds have now taken various forms and are easily defrauding the common people. A case has taken place in Udupi as a fresh example of this. The officials who defrauded him through a debit card have defrauded a person of Rs 2 lakh from his account.

The complainant had paid the hospital bill using his debit card while he was undergoing treatment at the hospital on June 3. He had not done any financial transactions since then. However, on June 8, he received an SMS message about money being debited from his bank account, which led him to go to the bank and check the transaction details, and it came to light that the fraud had taken place. During the verification, it was found that between June 5 and 8, Rs 2.12 lakh was transferred to an unknown account without his knowledge. Accordingly, the victim filed a complaint with the Udupi City Police Station in this regard, and the police registered a case under Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act and started an investigation, reported The Times of India.
